Situated some 7 km north-east of Česká Kamenice in the District of Děčín, Srbská Kamenice with a population of 200 is sandwiched between the forest-clad, rocky walls of the Kamenice rivulet canyon. The municipality was founded back in the l3th century by German colonists where earlier Slavonic settlement called Windisch Kamnitz had been. The inhabitants made their living on farming and many bleaching grounds were a special local craft that had survived until the early 20th century. Locals also produced wood wool for the glass works at the nearby Nový Bor. A new industry started at the end of the l9th century: Inns started emerging as travelling habits developed and local farmers established summer apartments for tourists living in towns. The village lies on the threshold to the region called Bohemian Switzerland, a country only scarcely touched by human activities, with bizarre rocks of sandstone, a special place for hiking trips and, in some places, for climbing, too. Seated just at the borderline north-west of the village, the hill of Růžový vrch, a mighty volcanic cone of basalt, carries a nature reserve on its hunch. A second nature reserve is ARBA, a swampy habitat of special flora and fauna. The place's dominating man-made monument is the St Wenceslas's Church (built 1772-1776) with a beautiful baroque altar. An unknown folk artist hewed the relievo of Our Lady's Coronation into the stone wall below the cemetery in 1701. Many pieces of indigenous folk architecture have survived till date.
