Seated between forest-clad hillsides, Nečtiny is a village some 37 km off Pilsen on the way to Carlsbad. The country around has some 3,000 hectares of forests. The municipality belongs to the Pilsen-North District which, consisting of some 5,300 hectares in area, reaches as far as the north-western borderline of the Carlsbad District. The oldest written record of Nečtiny is found in Knight Vladislav II's deed of 1169. Nečtiny's history has been rich and manifold. The Czech settlement has gone through many changes. Good times of prosperity altered with periods of sufferings and pains, rulers were coming and going along with religions and habits. Population figures varied a great deal, too, and today only some 630 inhabitants have permanent homes here. All of them make their living on agriculture, forestry, work in schools and services or commit to Pilsen. The sound and clear environment with many forests, natural and historical sights attract many people who come to spend restful summer holidays in this area. Local places of interest include the Preitenstein ruin built by Oldřich Pluh, the Lord of the nearby Rabštejn, around 1330. The domain changed owners many times, some of them being the Pluhs, the Gryspeks of Gryspach, the Kokořs and, last but not least, the Mensdorf-Pouilly Family who had owned it since 1839. Alfons Mensdorf-Pouilly had the dilapidated château of Nečtiny rebuilt in 1855-1858, redeveloping the Renaissance core and baroque addition in the neo-Gothic style. The château now serves the multiline Apprentice School. The château would not be complete without the vast park, the restored Mensdorf Crypt and the former farm estate, now used by the Farming Co-operative of Nečtiny, known for the excellent sheep and cow breeding as well as for high- quality potatoes. There are more sights worth seeing, like the Jacob the Great's Church, the St Bartholomew's Church at Březín and the St Ann's Church at Nečtiny. The building and adjacent Renaissance hospital now serve the Ctibor Turba Foundation-Chapel Studio over the summer theatre season. But it is not only architecture and history what makes Nečtiny an attractive place. The country around consists of many romantic corners and natural sights, of which the registered area of Kozelka is most interesting. The hill with tabular top not only has spectacular arrangement, but also attracts mountaineers to climb up its walls and rocky columns. The country has good terrain for walks and biking trips, e.g. to Manětín or to Rabštejn which are certainly worth seeing. |
