With a population of 6,500 and area of 14.2 sq. km, Vratimov is FrýdekMístek District's fifth town in size, even though the geographical situation explains a very close relationship to Ostrava. Founded in the late l3th century, the unimportant village changed in the 1880s when a paper factory was built here (now succeeded by the modern BIOCEL installation at Paskov) and when Ostrava's industry began to grow. Vratimov has no historic landmarks on its territory, but enjoys abundance of green and many free-time facilities: a sports area comprising a stadium, swimming-pools, tennis courts, table tennis rooms, a hostel; the Sokol Sports Club facilities with a volleyball playground, a tennis hall and a skating rink in winter. A biking route along the Ostravice River is under construction and will provide a safe cycling route to the Beskids for Ostrava's inhabitants. |
