The town of Příbor is one of the oldest towns in the North-East of Moravia. It has been raised as a town in 1251 by Přemysl, the Margrave of Moravia. The rich cultural history and development of education are very interesting. Arrival of the piarist monks in 1694 had a considerable influence on the town's development, because the piarist monastery was founded. The historical part of the town became a reservation of historical monuments in 1989. Main cultural monuments are: St. Valentine's Cathedral, parochial church, the Holy Rood Church, the Piarist Monastery and baroque monuments from 1713. Several outstanding personalities were born here: the priest Řehoř Volný, the priest Bonifác Buzek, the mental specialist Sigmund Freud, the sculptor František Juráň, the martyr Jan Sankander with his mother who lived there. Nowadays the representatives of the town are trying to come back to the cultural traditions and pass them to other generations.
