Kelč, a small town situated at the boundary of Haná and Walachia possesses the atmosphere of historical traditions of the past in the centre of a peculiar hilly country. The ancient settlement of Kelč concentrated gradually at several places within the today's town. The original town of Kelč, later described as old Kelč, was situated near the St Peter and Paul's Church. The period of Kelč of those times is described in the document dated 1247. The Bishop's Castle is another famous residential building situated at the place of the present castle, and finally, the village Sazany was built to west and north of the present town's square. The name of this village was mentioned first in the document by the Bishop of Olomouc, Jindřich Zdík, dating back to around 1140. In the times of Bruno, the Bishop of Šaumburk, the old residential area was newly arranged. The result was a new town of Kelč, established by Bruno around 1270, with a new layout of the square. Any time the visitors come to Kelč, they are struck by its appearance with a beautiful panorama of the town with dominating features of the castle, school and the church. All these features became the inspiration for Kuběna and Klever, the famous painters. The Renaissance castle was built during 1585-1596 and the baroque Church of St Peter and St Paul was built in. 1776- 1784. The additional monuments come from the l8th century, for example, the Calvary, the baroque rectory from 1768-69, the native house of brothers Jaroslav and Peter Křička and their sister Pavla, the numismatic monument at the place of the discovery of the so called "Treasure of Kelč". The square and centre of Kelč have been proclaimed an architectural treasure zone. Industrial traditions date back to 1948 when a branch of Loana Rožnov pod Radhoštěm was established here. Vojtěch Jasný, the famous film director, was born in Kelč. František Tomášek, the Cardinal, worked there as religion teacher.
