1pix.jpg (1869 bytes) In 1679 the Benedictine prelate, Didacius Converno, bought the hamlet of Klokoty near Tábor and founded there the Church of the Virgin Mary. Building began in 1701 and ended with the finishing of the cloisters and chapels in 1730. The richly decorated Baroque cupolas can be seen from afar. People came from far and wide to see the picture of Our Lady of Klokoty and the Klokoty fairs were famous in the 19th century. The rich stucco decoration on the vault of the church and chapels also drew many visitors to Klokoty.
A Way of the Cross led pilgrims to a polygonal chapel above the Dobrá voda spring, around which many tales havé been woven. Each tells of a white female figure which stepped out of the spring and stepped into it again, the water then cured people and animals.
